Krengsengan Daging Sapi & Kentang
A savory, sweet, and spicy Javanese-style beef stir-fry cooked with potatoes and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 500 g Beef (cut into small pieces)
- 1 Salam Leaf (to taste)
- 1 Kaffir Lime Leaf (to taste)
- 500 g Potato (fried)
- 1 Bird's Eye Chili (to taste)
- 1 tbsp Salt
- ½ tsp Mushroom Bouillon
- 1 tbsp Palm Sugar (Javanese style)
- 500 ml Water
- 1 tbsp Sweet Soy Sauce
- 10 Shallot (for spice paste)
- 6 Garlic (for spice paste)
- 1 Ginger (for spice paste; 1 segment)
- 3 Candlenut (for spice paste)
- 1 Curly Red Chili (for spice paste; to taste)
Instructions

Place shallots, garlic, ginger, candlenuts, curly red chilies, bird's eye chilies (optional), and a little oil into a food processor. Blend until smooth to create the spice paste.

Heat oil in a pan. Sauté the spice paste until fragrant.

Add salam leaves, kaffir lime leaves, salt, mushroom bouillon, and palm sugar. Stir well.

Add the diced beef to the pan and stir until evenly coated.

Stir in sweet soy sauce and add 500ml of water.

Cover the pan and cook until the beef is tender and the water has reduced.

Once the meat is tender, add the fried potatoes and additional whole bird's eye chilies. Stir well.

Continue cooking until the flavors are combined and the dish is ready to serve.
